Hello, true crime friends.
Although I have always been, more or less, a giant fan of true crime, I think my obsession really took hold on May 6, 2013. This is the notorious day that three girls, Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight, and Gina DeJesus, were rescued from their basement prison in Cleveland, Ohio. I’ve lived in northeast Ohio all of my life, but at that time was a fresh college graduate, and also a new resident to Cleveland proper. It could be that, at that time, my whole world was new, and now that I was a member of the real world, the rose colored glasses were ripped off. I was able to see the world as a realist for the first time, instead of the optimist bubble most of us experience in a liberal arts college.
When it came down to the grit of it, I was fascinated by the story. Ariel Castro had kidnapped three women, right under our noses, and kept them locked in his house for TEN YEARS. The evil, as well as the perseverance, in this story was incredible. Those women are incredible. The horrors they experienced were incredible. It was sick, and macabre, and awful… and I couldn’t get enough.
May 6, 2013 was the day that I truly realized monsters were real. They were real and they lived around us. In our neighborhoods, they’re our friends, they’re the people we would usually never expect. Castro drove a school bus. He was in a band. He was also an abusive kidnapper, and no one knew.
This is the blog I’m funneling my true crime obsession into. I’m here to present the most factual and unbiased information I can. I will go the extra mile for the details, to get the story straight. For you, for us, and for everyone who has a passion for true crime.
Welcome to my blog. xx
